The rapid development of modern industry product design has raised new challenge forthe product design in enterprises. Traditional crane design cannot meet the demands of marketwhich need the diversity, rapidity, scalability, environmental friendliness and low cost forproduct design. Combining with the serial and standardized characters of the overhead crane,based on the research of the function and structure of he overhead crane, this paper integratesaxiomatic design, modular design, parametric design, product platform design and productadaptability evaluate into the application of the overhead crane design. According to thespecific condition of bridge crane, relevant developments are performed for the bridge crane,including functional analysis,module division, model building,parameter driving, moduleconfiguration and evaluate of product adaptability, the parametric adaptable design platformon overhead crane has been completed. The main contexts as following:(1)The development status of bridge crane at home and abroad are reviewed, theadaptable design and related technologies, parametric design theories are overviewed, thebackground of the subject, significance,content of the research are brought forward.(2)The concept and system structure of parametric adaptable design platform isproposed.The key techniques are studied, including axiomatic design, adaptable moduledesign, parametric platform design and product adaptability evaluate etc. The technicalprocess of the parametric adaptable design platform is brought forward.(3)According to the users requirements of bridge crane, using the theory ofaxiomatization design, modular design and parametric design, dividing module of the bridgecrane combining with the functional structure.(4)The parametric production libraries, model libraries date libraries are set up, thespecial variable and universal variable of parametric product platform are confirmed byvariational analysis, combining with the case-based reasoning theory and the parameterizedvariant design method into the stepwise module configuration. Building the parametric adaptable design platform on overhead crane.(5)Combined with the example, use VB6.0as a development tool and access as systemdatabase, by redeveloping of Solid Edge, the parametric adaptable design of overhead cranehas realized, and the product adaptability is evaluated.
