Research On The Innovative Engineering Talent Training Mode In Olin College Of Engineering

With the rapid development of the world economy, engineering projects becomemore and more complex. The demand of the training standards and intellectual ability tothe engineers become increasingly high. Training engineers’ ability with innovativetalents is the inevitable choice of the engineering development in the HigherEngineering College. Innovative engineers have become a new direction in the reformand development of higher engineering education.Through literature reading, case anglicizing and research comparing, the study isanalyzed the system of the talent training mode in Olin College of Engineering. Startedfrom the training objectives, curriculum, teaching method, construction of teaching staffand student admission and evaluation etc. it explores the new system of the innovativeengineering talent training mode of engineering education in Olin College ofEngineering.This paper points out that the Olin College of Engineering trained engineer leadersas the goal, and committed to a comprehensive high quality personnel training. Thecurriculum structure--"the Olin triangle", and based on the "project" education is theeffective way of cultivating innovative engineering talents. Through jointing schools,school enterprise cooperation, the Olin College of Engineering strengthens theengineering talents of creativity and practical ability. The theoretical education andpractical education way to cultivate people can better meet the requirements of modernproject for engineering talents. At the same time, in view of China’s "ExcellenceEngineer education program", China’s engineering education should overcome theshortcoming of the book knowledge and learn from Olin College of Engineering’scurriculum structure and training of engineering talents of professional knowledge andpractical skills based training experience so that can train more outstanding engineeringtalents.
