With the importance of industrial heritage has become increasingly prominent inour heritage protection system, the research of studying specific ways to protect theindustrial heritage are gaining concern, and mapping and recording plays the mostvital part in these work. On the other hand, BIM technology rapid development inrecent years has also brought a new way forward to the heritage conservation. Studiedin this paper, industrial architecture heritage, which is based on BIM is producedunder such conditions. Three aspects are discussed in this article: Firstly, thedifferences between the industrial building heritage mapping and the general buildingheritage mapping. Secondly, is the applicability analysis of BIM in industrialarchitecture heritage surveying and mapping. Thirdly, is how to use BIM to surveyand map industrial architecture heritage. In the study of these three issues, the primegoal is to make the primary exploration of how to make use of BIM technology todeal with survey data, but not to explain BIM technology mapping in practicalproblems, so that the industrial architecture heritage potential value could be found.Starting from the architecture heritage mapping research, foreign experience andexisting ways are introduced at first. What’s more, the development of modernindustry and industrial buildings in China and their own characteristics are analyzed, and this paper introduces them briefly in classified order. In addition, the applicabilityof BIM technology in the industrial architecture heritage mapping work is analyzed. Finally, taking Taku Northern Naval Dockyard turbine plant as an example to exploreBIM-based mapping, proposes a work way which takes " message processing” as thekey point, the gradual establishment of "ideal model ","stage model " and " analysismodel" as the processes. This is exactly the core problem that what this papereventually hopes to solve.
