In response to a variety of demands from the architectural heritage domain,this paper launches a series of calculation and analysis on two actual cases,by using the data collected from the individual architectural heritage—Ji County's White Pagoda,and the collective architectural heritage—the Hupu Village.From the calculation‘data',‘information'is extracted and‘knowledge'is summarized;and this process is iterative.In collaboration with historical literatures and survey records,the actual analysis workflow of architectural heritage's point cloud is summarized.This paper further explores the implicit information embedded in the point cloud of architectural heritages,and tries to answer the questions of what it can do and how it can do.This paper preliminarily summarizes an integral framework and approaches of architectural heritage's point cloud,and extends the field of architectural heritage's point cloud data set in the heritage domain.In addition to the application potential of the digitalized archive and visualization-oriented remodeling,this paper reveals the technology that will be contributive to the emerging village preservation and regeneration designs.This paper also tries to consider consecutive point cloud as‘field'and to analyze architectural heritage's point cloud in a continuous rather than dispersed way.A more direct approach to dealing with point cloud is adopted,which eliminates the process of meshing and directly calculates the point cloud data.By incorporating the analysis methods and tools from other disciplines,this paper analyzes the architectural heritage data quantitatively and puts the point cloud into semantic categories.Basing on actual architectural heritage preservation cases,the point cloud data application workflow in the architectural heritages is explored.With multiple processing software and tools,the inclination and deformation information of masonry tower-like architectures is obtained in a quick and innovative way.Through the extraction,classification,and the calculation of point cloud of the village,village preservationists can fully understand and record the existing conditions of the villages in a short time,and acquire the quantitative index necessary for the design in a more efficient way,and thus lay the solid foundation for the subsequent design and further understanding of the villages.
