Research On Pedestrian System Design Strategy In City Commercial District

Commercial district is the crucial functional area in cities, which covers varieties oftransportation, while walking becomes the main means of transportation that consumerstake in city commercial district. Under the idea of people oriented and emphasis onwalking for today, it makes sense to analyze the design of pedestrian system in citycommercial district from the aspect of people. It also provides useful suggestions for cityplanners in creating a wonderful walking experience for pedestrians, mean while,improving the economic profit for commercial districts.This paper analyzes the different types, functions and elements of pedestrian systemitself in commercial district on the basis of fundamental research that have already existand discusses the activity types, characteristics as well as demand of the mainusers-pedestrians, finding out users look for a continuous, accessible, comfortable,functions compound and cultural pedestrian system. It studies the relationship betweenpedestrians and activities, emphasizing that the pedestrian system design should be basedon ‘people’. Then, this paper summarizes the existing problems of pedestrian system incommercial district in China and analyzes the reasons for it from the view of ‘people’,including continuity, accessibility, comfort, functions and culture. Based on the six typicalcase studies, it concludes the design experience. Lastly, this paper comes up withcorresponding design strategies and then conducts the empirical analysis in order toprovide the optimal demonstration.
