Research On Landscape Design Methords Of Commercial Pedestrian Streets In Historic District

With the rapid development of city construction，as a kind of commercial spacemainly by means of pedestrian traffic, commercial pedestrian street plays a more and moreimportant role in cities. It is not only the place of shopping, recreation, leisure andcommunication, but directly reflects cultural connotation and charm of a city with itsexternal image, landscape and space layout. Therefore, commercial pedestrian streetplanning and construction have become important ways to perfect city function, create cityimage and improve city quality.City is the result of historical development, and “historic district” is the essence of citymemory. Except for having characteristics of commercial pedestrian streets, commercialpedestrian streets in historic district also have valuable historical and cultural resources,high historical and cultural value and complete history features. Now China is in the periodof high-speed modernization development, there are strong conflicts between modern andtraditional culture, which leads to chaos of city appearance. Especially in commercialpedestrian streets which developed in city historical district, modern transformation andupdate are being faced. The problem of missing of historic culture and city traditionalcommunication is experienced, which leads to cities’“characteristic crisis”. So it is crucialthat doing with relationship between protection and renewal.Commercial pedestrian streets in historic district are taken as the research object ofthis paper. First, on base of defining and understanding related concepts of research object,the formation process of the domestic and international historic district theories and theirimpacts on the landscape design of commercial pedestrian streets are studied in this paper.And by analyzing domestic and international related researches, landscape design ofcommercial pedestrian streets in city historic districts can be understood deeply. Then,some famous commercial pedestrian streets in historic districts are analyzed, such as theSan Antonio River pedestrian street in United States, Kiyomizu Temple Old Street in Japan,Town God Temple in Shanghai, Confucius Temple in Nanjing and Shantang Street inSuzhou, and the successes of landscape design of them are summed up. On this basis,principles of commercial pedestrian streets landscape design in historic district are studied, and landscape design methods are presented from three aspects: natural landscape, atificialview and cultural landscape. Finally the principles and methods above are applied in WestStreet in Jiading Old City, in order to provide some reference for landscape design ofcommercial pedestrian streets in historic district in our country.
