Study On The Protection And Renovation Of The Traditional Courtyard Dwelling Of The Xingyang Region

This thesis belongs to the "twelfth five-year" national science and technologyplan project “North China in the traditional local-style dwelling housesenergy-saving technology research”，Project No.2011BAJ08B01-01. Well as partof Henan Province Department of Education project to create a technology research“based on the geographical features of the Henan local settlement”, Project No.2009B560013.Xingyang area, located in the north of Henan province, the south Mount Song,the north Yellow River, is a transaction area from west mountain area to the east plainarea. The special geographical and cultural environment makes the traditionaldwelling in xingyang area Various, among which the traditional courtyard-stylehouses, front with living room and back with yard, are the most special. Nowadaysthe researches on Xingyang traditional courtyard-style houses mainly focus on theresidential morphology types and construction technology, lacking the research on theprotection and reuse of the traditional dwelling.Compared with the complete palaces and settlements, most of the traditionaldwelling exist alone in modern building, and they could not reach the requirements ofthe protection of cultural relics. However, they coagulate the wisdom and wealth ofdifferent peoples from different places and cultural environment. They are the carrierof regional culture and the construction technology. Nowadays, the urbanization isgrowing faster and faster. More and more traditional dwelling are suffering from theconstructive destruction brought by the new rural reconstruction. How to protect andreuse them to extend their vitality are problems worth our pondering and researching.Xingyang Baimiao ancient residential building is an excellent example amongthe traditional courtyard-style houses in the central Henan, whose protection,improvement and renovation is important. Based on the site survey, interview anddocument study, this thesis summarizes the spatial and current characteristics of theBaimiao ancient residential building. Also, it refers to the principles and methods of protection, improvement, and renovation from a technical perspective.Apart from that,it shows the social, historical and cultural value, offers references for the protectionand reuse of the traditional dwelling in the future.
