It has been an important goal of urban construction to meet people safe, convenient,comfortable walking travel demand, especially in the context of rapid growth of motorvehicles, within walkability has become an important criterion for reflection oflow-carbon travel and street vitality. Walkability measurement methods based onwalkscore provides a unified standard for measuring the level of the city’ s walkabilityon different regions. By distinguishing the difference of city structure, neighborhoodscale, pedestrian environment, residents travel habits and others between NorthAmerican cities and Shenzhen, it’s more meaningful to choose city tour as the studyobject and to explore its quantitative basis for each calculation step, to adjust andoptimize the related infrastructure data, quantitative content, network analysis methods.Firstly, Taoyuan district has been selected for the study range, based on the twodifferent urban structures that in Shenzhen with more meaningful for the study group.According to Residents travel habits, Amenity categories are identified consideringabout China’s relevant standard and resident’s actual needs, while the weights areassigned by the AHP mode and expert scoring. According to the resident acceptablerange of the walking comfort time, tolerance time and resistance time, the walkingattenuation curve is adjusted. With the research methods to patency of the road, theevaluation of pedestrian path chokepoint and obstacles is indentified. Walking costscausing by light control crosswalks and footbridges and neighborhoods scale arediscussed for Taoyuan neighborhood walkability measuring. Improving meshingmethod, the selected strategy of starting point and the superposition principles ofamenities score. Based on the principle of walkability measurement using, GIS is usedto process and compute for data, to get the walkscores of the starting point of Taoyuanneighborhood, and through spatial interpolation to visualize the expression of thewalkability measurement results.Secondly, through research questionnaires and statistical methods such asobservation, the effectiveness of the method is certified to measure the walkability. Themeasure results including the walkability of Taoyuan neighborhood on the overall andthe blocks of the neighborhood were analysised and comparied. While the walkabilityof Taoyuan neighborhood and amenities location, population distribution, estate pricewas analysised to explore their relationship. Finally, the application of the method inurban construction was discussed and summarized, including the problems.
