With the development of modified starch processing to automation, large-scale, hazadous factors and injuries resulting from manufacturing processes have growed significantly; in particular, dust explosion hazards is even serious. Therefore, it is significantly important to identify the process hazardous fators and take appropriate safety precautions actions in modified starch industry.In this paper, major hazards were analyzed and identified basing on starch modification process. And on this basis, appropriate Process Hazardous Analysis (PHA) methods was selected to conduct a safety assessment by using HAZOP analysis method, group discussions, brainstorming, risk matrix and etc., During the process, every detail dangerous, harmful factors and the possible consequences were identified also. And based on this, developped a reasonable detail actions to reduce the safety risk, indentified responsibility for department to implement these actions. This paper also specially researched dust explosion risk during starch modify process by carring out experimental research. And developed detail actions plan basing on security analysis and evaluation of the test results and characteristics by using risk matrix method, the rational development of measures to reduce risks.The proposed analytical method has universal applicability, can be used in safety analysis of chemical treatment sratch modification process.
