"Dian Shi Zhai pictorial" is issued to be the longest and earliest and most abundant content as well as the most influential pictorial in modern history of china. And it is also the one of most preserved lithographic pictorial from now on, its huge illustrated database for the study of the folk costumes and customs in the late Qing dynasty is with profound meaning.This paper is based on "Dian Shi Zhai pictorial" to study the folk dress and customs in the late Qing dynasty, but it is not limited to pictorial itself, combining with other related historical materials of this particular historical stage of the late Qing dynasty about folk dress and customs at the same time. Firstly, researching from "Dian Shi Zhai pictorial", through to the record of the folk dress and the relevant historical data in regard to pictorial, the author is recording, counting, analysis the costume features as well as summarizing the special historical stage from the "traditional" to the "civilized" transitional features,and also concluding that influenced by the development level of commodity economic and "Learning from the West" the differences of costume reformation between developed towns and backward country are still existing; Secondly, do an systematic overview of folk customs from four aspects (Dress customs, diet customs, transportation customs, marriage customs), summarize and conclude folk customs of the late Qing dynasty experienced meanness in ancient to the modern civilization,and some special phenomenon like "the extravagant mood of society’、" breaking the ethics", etc. In the end, basing on the discussion of the clothing and the customs outlook from the previous two chapters, the article summarizes and explores the changes of the folk dress and customs that experiencing by the Chinese culture to the Chinese culture to a blend of doping of western cultures,and finally developing into a fast process of western culture in the late Qing dynasty, and also summarizes and explores its transition regulation of time to space, gradual change to mutation, niche to outside of the public, within to bond-out. Finally, summarizing the reform reasons how social environment and social psychological impact folk dress and customs.The important arguments in this paper is main though the author’s checking and counting for the "Dian Shi Zhai pictorial"(process block) in detail, and Searching for the related information from Shanghai archives, Wuxi library, Nanjing local library, as well as searching "Shenbao" and other important historical data, the United Kingdom "Illustrated News of London", etc. in the corresponding period.
