Access network technologies especially for wide-band access network have been developing quickly in recent years. Various wide-band access network technologies have been reported, which are designed for different access network environment. ADSL is one of the most popular access network technologies and it can provide up/down asymmetric data transmission in the traditional telecommunication networks. Extended from ADSL2 technology, ADSL2+ boasts of more new functions and higher performances. The implementation of ADSL2+ in telecommunication networks can offer quicker access speed and longer transmission distance and better transmission performances. It is not necessary to alter former telecommunication networks structures and the cost of network construction is very low, so ADSL2+ has a bright application future. The development of wide-band access network depends on the development of DSLAM. As the most pivotal equipment in the ADSL access system, the translation of DSLAM from ATM DSLAM to IP DSLAM is one inevitable tendency.The paper introduces the concept of access network, its evolution tracks and the development tendency of wide-band access network.
