Open Access (OA) is a new model of academic information communication that developed under the network environment with the concept of open access, freedom, cost free, and sharing, and it is a good method to resolve the crisis in academic exchanges. OA developed very rapidly in Europe and other developed countries, and raised open access movement that to solve the "crisis of academic journals published" in the world. And then many countries have signed the declaration of "Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI)" or "Berlin Declaration", expressing the position to support for the principle of open access. Meanwhile, Chinese government and the scientific community have signed the "Berlin Declaration" to explicitly support open access. However, the rapid development of open access journals cannot cover up its operation embarrassment. On the one hand, the authors are not willing to pay the additional fees to open access publishing, and the other is the open access journal publishers are struggling in the basic operating incomes. Therefore, seek and construct a scientific and reasonable profit model of open access publishing has become an important topic. The corresponding is that academia and the related areashave studies on the publishing model and publishing platform of open access journals. But it is still clearly inadequate about researching on the economic operation and the profit model of open access journals. As one of the two models to achieve open access model, open access journal is called "Golden Road", which has three types——completely open, partially open and delay open, and two publishing models——pay of authors, pay by agency. At recent, governments, research funding agencies, educational institutions, libraries and publishers, also have developed a policy on open access journals based on different perspectives. From the perspective of stakeholders, the publishers and governments who is in I class of stakeholders established policy of open access has the greatest impact on the development of open access journals.Current profits of OA journals include two sources, one is from journals that including publishing fees, advertising, additional products and value-added services, membership fees, e-commerce, and the other is from external funding that including institutional funding, government funding, personal donations and so on. There are5kinds profit models of open access journals, which include service profit model, information profit model, channel profit model, sales profit model and consolidated profit model. There is a typical case study of open access journal——PLoS publisher, it makes an overview of PLoS and its profit sources, and then summarizes the framework of PLoS profit models. Through the analysis of build profit models of open access journals and the study of open access journals, it considers that the profit model differences between open access journals will become smaller and smaller, furthermore, the service will become the profit growth points of open access journal earnings growth profit model, and the technology will also play a more big role.Open access journals is a commercially and sustainable publishing model in China. It should be vigorously promote these models and be focus on talent cultivation, open access policies, and academic evaluation system, that to encourage and allow the development of diverse of OA journals profit models.
