The libraries of colleges are the important base for the cultural Abstract Libraries of universities and colleges are significant base for cultural inheritance, cultural innovation and cultural guidance. Along with the coming of the era of knowledge economy and people-oriented age, the management of libraries in universities and colleges is required to persist on the "people-oriented" thought which is the core of scientific development outlook, to improve their service level, to serve teaching and scientific research in universities and colleges, to realize the all-round progress of readers and library staff and to prompt the sustainable development of universities and colleges.This paper, with the guidance of Marxist all-round development theory and the people-oriented thought of scientific development outlook, employed data retrieval method to illustrate the current status of management of libraries in universities and colleges and exposed problems existing in the management of libraries in universities and colleges; by qualitative analysis, the author proved the necessity of people-oriented thought in the management of those libraries and proposed innovative thinking and solutions concerning the management under the guidance of people-oriented idea in the new age, providing an outstanding supportive platform for teaching and scientific research in universities and colleges. On the basis of people-oriented thought, this paper studied on the innovation of the management of libraries in universities and colleges. It consists of the following three parts.Part one is the theoretical basis and concept definition. This part mainly proffers theoretical support to the research made in the paper. Discussions were made from the following perspectives, namely, the people-oriented thought of Marxist classic writers, people-oriented theories in sinicized Marxism, the natural connotation of people-oriented thought, the fundamental concept of innovation of the management of libraries in universities and colleges and the relationship between people-oriented thought and the management innovation of such libraries.Part two is the description on the current status of management of libraries in universities and colleges and the analysis on problems. This part expounded the problems existing in the management of such libraries from three aspects:one aspect is the current status, including the overall situation and main features of the management of libraries in universities and colleges. The second aspect is problems, including the non-scientific management system, low service quality and level, low quality of library staff and backward resource construction. The third aspect is causes, which largely include paying more attention to things than to people in management concept, lack of humanization in service mode and the negligence of the subject status in staff management.Part three is the basic thinking about and major solutions to the management innovation of libraries in universities and colleges, under the guidance of people-oriented thought. Three kinds of thinking were summarized in the paper:firstly, the core of management innovation is establishing the reader-centered idea; secondly, the basis of management innovation is setting up and completing scientific and reasonable regulations; thirdly, the ultimate aim of management innovation is to realize autonomous management. Solutions to the innovation of the management of libraries in universities and colleges under the guidance of people-oriented concept mainly involve the following five aspects:the first is to establish people-oriented staff management mechanism; the second is to enhance the quality of library managers; the third is to set up people-oriented reader service pattern; the fourth is to realize humanization in the environment construction of libraries in universities and colleges; the fifth is to build the assessment system of libraries’ implementation of people-oriented management.
