Research Of Information Resources Management Model For Colleges And Universities Library

PurposesColleges and universities library is an important part of the special collections in library. It is not only able to show academic development history of the school and the existing academic standards, but also reflects the humanistic values and spiritual philosophy of rigorous, realistic, pursuit of truth.Information resources is the foundation for building the digital library. But the present library information resource management still exists many shortcomings. This study comprehensively grasps the information resource description method and the related theory and technology of information resources management, and combines the present resources management Situation of the library.Based on this and in view of the information resource life cycle,establishing a model of Colleges and universities library information management are proposed.The model has five stages which includes resources acquisition, description, integration and storage, mining, publishing and using. And with a focus on the resource description, this study proposes methods that suits the library resources. Finally, use the model to establishing a library instance,which takes the construction of the Yujia library in Huazhong University of Science and Technology as a support and combines the actual situation as well as the characteristics of resources.MethodsIn this study, we comprehensively learn the information resource description, information resource management theories and techniques through literature research and intelligence analysis; comparison and induction are used to analysis of resource description methods advantages and disadvantages; we learn the current situation of university library construction and facing challenges through literature research and site survey; we derive from the aforementioned research and propose a method for the library resources in the description stage; Finally, we take the model as a theoretical framework to guide Yujia library construction.Results (1) At the age of highly digitalization, information resources show the characteristic of information resources surging,uneven quality,content-rich,various carrier forms. Information resources description is diversified and the organizational models are quite a lot.The problems that how to effectively describe these information resources and then be integrated,excavated,released,pose serious challenges for the library construction.(2) Colleges and universities library has limitations, mainly as follows:the pages difficultly to open,inefficiently to retrieve,only in the bibliography existing,the content of the resources shallowly to reveal, lowly to share,et al.Some key issues of the library,such as the use of library resources, network building and sustainable development are not yet in-depth discussions.(3) The university library needs an efficient resource management system, in which the information resource management model has become a priority.(4) Colleges and universities library should scientifically manage the information resources from the cycle of data generation, processing, publishing, reusing. And its construction relies on advanced technologies and related middleware programs, especially digital storage technologies and data mining technologies to realize the transition from the "information library" to the real meaning of "knowledge base"Conclusions(1) To practical, advanced, sustainable development for the construction of the development goals, this study established the model of colleges and universities library information management. In the model, each phase should be closely related to the behavior of previous phase.(2)Based on the system of variety of resource description metadatas coexistence, colleges and universities library should define a unified resource description framework, According to goals and the characteristics of resources.It means that we should propose a metadata scheme for the library resources to regulately and reasonably describe the resources.(3)Taking Yu Jia library in Huazhong University of Science and Technology as a case to establish the information management model of colleges and universities library has a modeling effect. In the actual construction, colleges and universities library should pay attention to highlight the features.(4) But the shortcomings of this study and further research direction are that the systematic and comprehensive model needs to be further strengthened and the metadata specifications of Yujia library still need to constantly improve in practice etc.
