Hardware-based video coding technology, not only can solve the defects of the huge original information data, also can be a good way to improve the data processing speed of information, facilitates the data processing and storage capabilities of handheld multimedia devices. The topic uses ARM Cortex-A8processor as hardware core, uses its internal hardware codec MFC, achieves a set of hardware-based video codec systerm which supports multiple codec standard. This paper summarizes the mainstream video codec technology first; Then, analyses the architecture of the ARM Cortex-A8processor and its internal resources; then presents the system solution which use the Samsung S5PV210processor as the core chip, uses the internal hardware codec MFC (Multi Format Codec) as video codec core, this solution supports a variety of mainstream video codecs, and computes faster than the software codec; next, analyses the function and architecture of the internal video interface FIMC (Fully Interactive Mobile Camera), uses TVP5150decoder chip to realize the video decoding capabilities of PAL analog video, accomplishes the driver transplant of the TVP5150decoder chip in embedded Linux environment, accomplishes the video capture and display capabilities separately by V4L2framework and FrameBuffer framework; then, uses the internal MFC codec, decodes the raw YUV data with H.264and MPEG-4standard, and debugs the overall system, verifyes the functionality of the system; Finally, this paper summarizes the whole work.
