With the development of embedded system, it appears a trend that network techniques have a combination with embedded system. The digital media compression algorithm has got an obvious development too, so that it is possible for transmitting high quality video with a lower rate through the net. Developing with the technique of VLSI, the complex algorithm can be realized more easily. Based on the knowledge of embedded system, video compression algorithm and network technology, it is represented that a research on the design of an embedded audio/video codec scheme which implement some kinds of video technology based on the 32bit RISC embedded CPU and VW2010 chip, in this paper.At first, it is presented an analysis of the characteristic and the application of some kinds of Embedded CPU, and is selected the S3C2410 deployed by Samsung as the platform of the scheme. Then, all parts of VW2010 were discussed in detail, especically DMA modual. MPEG-4 standard is also introduced. Based on the hardware and software knowledges of embedded system and MPEG-4 algorithm, it is taken out a design which can be applied in many kinds of fields, such as digital multimedia player, IPTV, STB, and video server applications, etc.Finially, it is also designed two schemes that can realize multi-channel video compression with high resolution.
