With the rapid development of Internet and wireless users explosive growth, IPv4addresses have been distributed. With WLAN network’s layout in public places, the lackof IPv4addresses gets worse. Although there is some technology to enhance the utilizationratio of the IPv4address, the pace of transition from IPv4to IPv6has never stopped.Operators also puts forward the various needs, and solutions of IPv6promotion. As a resultof IPv6upgrates, developing IPv6protocol stack in WLAN device has become a researchtopic.Based on WLAN AC, we design and realize the IPv6protocol stack. The paper firstlyintroduces the research status of IPv6, points out the problem of WLAN products withoutIPv6stack. By studying the IPv6protocols, such as DHCPv6and ND, we get thetheoretical basis for designing the IPv6protocol stack. WLAN AC’s key technology isanalyzed, which helps us find out the point we need to modify and increase. Based on thetheoretical basis, we design the IPv6protocol stack intergrally. The stack is made of Linuxkernel mode protocol stack and some application mode protocols. We emphaticallyanalyzes the DHCPv6module and data plane. We also optimize the performance of newWLAN AC system.Finally, we carry on eth function and performance test on the designedsystem, and the results show the design of IPv6protocols stack is successful and the stackhas better performance.
