With the evolution of technology, the modern war has ushered in a new era, which is characterized by mid-long range precision strike based on missiles. New techniques including hypersonic speed, combined guidance and phased array radar exhibit the recent development in missile technology. Radome, as an indispensable component of missiles, is expected to meet the demands in every aspect.With rapid development in application of radomes, higher-level electrical performance and more complex design procedures are required, which calls for test systems to precisely determine the electrical properties of radomes. Power transmission, boresight error and boresight error slope are most often specified for radomes. And most test systems are established to measure these parameters.In this paper, research background and recent development of radomes are reviewed, including an in-depth study on the development of radome test systems. Radome evaluation system is elaborated, which is followed by introduce to radome design process based on ray tracing method. Test rules and techniques for far-field radome testing with closed-loop measurement systems are discussed, containing system hardware, operating principle and software flow.We establish advanced hardware system comprised of high precision positionar, Agilent vector network analyzer.Test system can obtain the primary parameters of antenna and radome systems with the ability of data acquisition and processing, as well as generating charts and reports at user’s request. Curves can be plotted in various forms, including antenna radiation pattern, radome boresight error and boresight error slope. Data file printing and storage functions are also provided. High precision and high automation of this test system fully meet the needs of development tasks of modern antenna and radome systems with superior performance.
