In recent years, With the reform of China’s higher education management system, the rapid development of the college building, increasing attention has been attached tothe development of Campus GIS which integrates GIS and Campus ManagementInformation System. There is a prevailing trend toward the application of Campus GISto the planning and administration of institutes of higher education in modern times. And this is likely to transform the traditional Campus Information Management Model. The present research has been undertaken to develop a specific Campus GIS forNanjing University of the Arts. The thesis consists of seven Chapters. Chapter One isan introduction, describing the research background, status quo and significance ofCampus GIS development, as well as the overall structure of the thesis. Chapter Twopresents a detailed review of the initiation, development, constituents, and functions ofGIS. In Chapter Three, the thesis discusses several key technical problems in thedesign of Campus GIS. Chapters Four, Five and Six focus on the design, realization, and testing of the Campus GIS for Nanjing University of the Arts, respectively. Thelast chapter serves as a conclusion, summarizing the major findings in the presentresearch and providing tentative suggestions for future studies.Based on GIS and the Digital Topographic Map, the Campus GIS for NJCC isdeveloped with the object-oriented visual programming tool, JAVA. MapX, a productby MapInfo, is also integrated into the system. Then through a series of dataacquisition, formation, warehousing, the establishment of relevant attributes associated, and graphics, image, text, video, voice, and other elements will be integrated into thesystem,The present system has realized such functions as browsing, mutual text-imagequeries, distance measurement and shortest path search. It has also solved the problemof spatial data processing which traditional Campus Management System can not do.The Campus GIS of NUA serves as an incomparable modern managementplatform for campus construction. It makes immediate and accurate informationaccessible to teachers, students and visitors. School leaders can also employ the systemas an approach to decision making in development orientation. Schools in the next building to become intelligent, scientific, network of institutions of higher learningbuilding blocks.
