On The Image Construction Of Chinese Athletes By U.S. Media

Athlete，being a important part of our nation, their image will be contributive tooverall national image that has been mostly focused this years by our government.Yao Ming, an excellent representative among the Chinese athletes, in his someten-year stay in NBA has introduced and shown him as well as our national image.The thesis focuses on the reports on Yao Ming by the media in the states, amongwhich New York Times and Houston Chronicle has been chosen to be elaborated upon.Content analysis and discourse analysis have been used through the research. We areaiming to work out how the media in the states construct Yao Ming image, what theimage is and what are the facts that affect the image construction.The conclusion of the study aims to show how the image of Chinese athlete hasbeen constructed by the media in the states and what the image is. By knowing thefactors affecting the construction of the image, we can optimize the policy of ournational image publicity and make it effective.
