Firstly, this thesis relates the basic theories of chaos and the principle as well as application of the erbium doped fiber laser. Secondly, we mainly investigate numerically applications of erbium doped fiber lasers in the chaotic secure communication. We give two schemes, namely, the chaotic dual ring erbium doped fiber lasers (DREDFL) are, respectively, used to drive two single ring erbium doped fiber lasers (SREDFL) and two DREDFL. And the chaotic secure communication is investigated by using chaotic synchronization of two driven erbium doped fiber lasers. For two schemes, their simulation processes are, respectively, given corresponding periodic and chaotic states of the driven systems before being driven. Moreover, the simulation investigations of chaotic secure communication are, respectively, presented corresponding the analog information signal and digital information signal. The results illustrate that when two driven systems realize the chaotic synchronization, the chaotic secure communication can be achieved by signal masking scheme. And we find that the information signal will be demodulated better when the initial states of the driven systems are non-chaotic.
