As the development of manufacturing equipment industry in china, the equipments are becoming larger, more complicated and precision, and the halt losses and maintenance costs caused by equipment failure are also rising. Condition based maintenance, which can reduce maintenance cost and improve service levels significantly, is becoming more and more important in enterprises. A remote monitoring and maintenance system has been proposed and the general intelligent monitoring unit is emphatically designed and developed to meet the needs of monitoring and maintenance functions required.Firstly, the prototype of remote monitoring and maintenance system are proposed based on GPRS network and embedded technology according to the functional requirement of manufacturing equipments, and the overall solutions are designed in detail. A B-PLOT mixed data compression algorithm, which reduces the redundancy between the data and saves transmission cost effectively, is applied here in order to solve the transmission and storage problem of large amounts of status data. The data transmission system based on GPRS network and Internet also has been researched to ensure the fluency of data link layer. Secondly, the hardware and software of EIMU have been designed in detail based on STM32MCU. The hardware is divided into minimum system, data acquisition module, data communication module, human machine interface module, data storage module etc. The software of various tasks, including drivers, protocol, stacks and user programming, is completed based on uC/OS-II real-time operating system, especially transplanting em Win GUI library to design the human-machine interface and the FreeModbus to realize the RS485communication. Finally, main functions of the EIMU have been tested and joint debug has been completed combining with the PLC control system and remote maintenance software. The functions of the software including remote monitoring, remote control and remote service have also been described and validated.EIMU and Remote Maintenance Software prototype have been applied on the powder press machine preliminary.
