Abstract/Summary:
IT project management has been a popular area in the global software industry. According to the statistics conducted by the Standish Group, which involved8,400IT projects and US$25billion investment,55%of the IT projects cost more than initial estimates, and69%overdue. Compared with other developed countries, China experienced a late departure in the area of IT project management. In addition, the majority of Chinese IT projects are concerned with system and common software development, which does not really belong to the mainstream of the global IT business. Recently, more and more Chinese large-and middle-size companies have decided to use software to help them manage daily operations. Compared with general IT projects, projects related to management software development tend to be more holistic and more likely to change in scope, and have longer implementation periods and more integration requirements. Currently, China’s IT project management research on management software development is still at a preliminary stage.Using modern project management theories and methodologies, this paper analyzes the i ssues found in CB’s Human Resource Management (HRM) system development and provides a number of recommendations for future IT project management in the area of enterprise man agement software development. Later, regarding the issues and lessons learned this paper further analyzes the root causes and provided detailed recommendations. In the end, this paper summarizes the recommendations for future IT project managemen t with respect to management software development, including:1) Use value breakdown struc ture (VBS) and statement of work (SOW) to clarify project scope,2) Integrate six project imp lementation units into one to improve operational efficiency, and3) Optimize development an d implementation process to improve project quality.
