Around the year2000, the International Telecommunication Union announced theinternational standard of the third generation mobile communication technology. As the first3G technology to be commercial, WCDMA, with the most mature technology and the mostcomplete industrial chain, supplies the best plan of smoothing evolution from GSM to3G.This paper first reviews the development of WCDMA in China and the whole world, andthen presents the significance of studying WCDMA handover technology. Starting from thekey technology of WCDMA system, the author highlights its important improvements of airinterface compared with2G. Later, the principle of handover is analyzed and optimizationobjectives and principles are proposed. Based on these principles, the current paper studiesthe soft handoff algorithm of adaptive adjust switching threshold based on the locationinformation, and compared with UTRA algorithms,finding out the difference of the MASN,ASUR at and OP performance through simulation.Finally, combined with the development and current status of WCDMA in Jiamusi Cityin recent years, based on the adaptive soft handoff algorithm above, this paper puts forwardthe possible plans of handover optimization implementation, and compared with theperformance before optimize, validate the soft handoff algorithm to improve the effect of thispaper.
