Since the new century, Spy Dramas spring up in television screen. From the Plotin Secret, Hidden Spy, Before the Dawn to Cliff which is broadcast recently, theaudiences are all delight. The reasons why Spy Drama is still growing attribute tosome social and cultural causes: Firstly, the macroscopical narrating of Spy Dramascorresponded to current mainstream values. Secondly, the de-familiarization ofstoryline of Spy Dramas, and the exciting dramatic conflicts supplies aesthetic taste ofconsumer market audiences. Thirdly, the appearance of new heroism in this kind ofdrama realized heroic dreams of audiences in peacetime. Under the influence ofmarketization, Spy Dramas has gradually evolved to a kind of Mature drama. Thiskind of dramas possessed a certain scale of production and output, in the processingproduction, it formed several types of elements, stylized narrative cultures and spreadfeatures. The former scholars mostly devote themselves to case study and study on thenarrative strategy. However, there is little studies on propagation regarded it as a typeof drama. The ignorance of theoretical study causes the phenomenon that theaudiences are lack of intuitive and comprehensive understanding of Spy Dramas. Andthere is hardly any creative explanation about the present problems and difficultpositions.On the basis of the development process of spy dramas, this paper defines it andanalyses the content, that is to say, the type and selements. According to thecombination of the related theory of political economy and mass communication, Plotin Secret, Hidden Spy, Before the Dawn, Cliff are chosen to be the typicalrepresentative of the drama. Semiotics, psychology, feminism and westernstructuralist narratology, uses and gratifications approach are used as the theoreticaltool, the paper analyses the development and dissemination of the war spy drama inthe new century. It also concludes that the survival dilemma and the way ofinnovation and development, which makes the contribution to theoretical researchdevelopment of the war spy drama in the new century.The paper includes three parts: instruction, body and conclusion. Researchbackground, literature review and research methods are displayed in the instruction.The first section, an overview of spy dramas, lists three phases of spy dramas in ourcountry with a perfect evolution from anti--spy movies to spy dramas on which thedefinition of Spy Dramas are made and expounds the development of Spy Dramas briefly. The second section analyzes the contents of Spy Dramas by analyzing thestory and characters and so on of Spy Dramas. The third section starts with a Politicaleconomy of communication theory by analyzing narrative arts of spy drama.Narrative strategy research of spy dramas comes first which Includes structure ofnarrative, narrative perspective and narrative discourse and then analyzes the narrativeconnotations from political, economic and cultural perspectives. Start from the "usesand gratifications" theory, the fourth section is the study of audience psychology andits dissemination effects of the spy dramas. The fifth section analyzes the currentdifficulties faced by the spy dramas in which the strategy of the anti type and the typeof the fusion is put forward because of the bottleneck in the development of spydrama. The conclusion stresses again that the success of the spy drama as a type ofdrama, and reiterate its dilemma, look forward to continuing their efforts to make thespy drama always maintain prosperity.
