With the popularization of further education in China and the development of journalism, journalism enrollment increased year by year, it has satisfied the talent needs of the news media in China and the development of the media industry. However, at the same time of the growth, the quality of journalism education caused the academia and the industry’s concerns and rethinking, how to train students to adapt to the development of the modern media industry, the globalization of the media industry and become qualified personnel has become a major issue in the media education. On the other hand, the major of journalism started late in China, there are several problems, including training objectives cannot integrate with the world market, the traditional training model is difficult to meet the demand for a new era of media industry, the knowledge structure of the education for the master is single. It has caused the graduates have to face huge employment pressure, some medias prefer to train undergraduates, so graduates are at a disadvantage in the job.In the history of the development of journalism education, it is necessary to learn from other countries. This essay based on the journalism education in Australia as a case to compare with ours. The purpose is to learn their good qualities and give us a new revelation of journalism education. The starting time of the Australia journalism education is the same as in China and it is also later than in the United States, but the development of journalism education is the world’s leading. International students from more than200countries around the world come to Australia to study journalism each year. The graduates go back to their countries and participate in the media industries, they owned the advantages of an international perspective and the advanced concepts and methods of international media. It has promoted the process of internationalization of Chinese media industry and has impacted the development of Chinese journalism education. Therefore, this article takes the journalism education as the main object for the comparative research.This article is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, introduced background, research status at home and abroad, the significance of the comparative study of journalism education and research methods. The second chapter analyses the difference of media industries in two countries and analyses the differences and similarities between two journalism education modes. The third chapter is divided into six parts.(The training objectives, curriculum, credit requirements, the teachers’ background, the practical teaching mode and the assessment, respectively) In this chapter, the main case studies conducted in some universities in Australia. The analysis and comparison of the six internal aspects of journalism education could help us to identify problems and inspired solutions. The forth chapter analyses some drawbacks of journalism education and synthesizes the above comparison research to suggest solutions.The study found that the new problems and old problems of Chinese journalism education are influenced by its internal structure and the external environment. The internal structure includes the six aspects of journalism education that mentioned above while the external environment includes the different political system, the attitudes of governments and the construction in the conditions of globalization. Facing the rapid development of the media industry and the changes of new media take the place of traditional media, to learn from Australia’s journalism education mode, adjust the combination, creating a new type of journalism education with Chinese characteristics to adapt to the development of Chinese systems.
