This thesis made statistical analysis on the "new weekly" from2004to2012, a totalof216cover stories, to find the peculiarity in the topic, genre, length, object, coverdesign and so on. And in the framework of the media ecology theory, discusses theinfluence of consumerism, shallow reading phenomenon, periodical market competitionand other factors for the "new weekly" cover story.The study found that "New Weekly" cover story showing the followingcharacteristics:in terms of topics, mostly concentrated in the social and cultural fields; inthe genre,information articles, the largest proportion, followed by comments, interviews,the rest does not exceed a total of10%, and information articles proportion is rising,declining comment proportion, both from a widening trend; in length, there is anincreasing trend in the overall number of feature articles, but single article space tend toshorten;in the object, character topics accounted for relatively small, focusing on theupper middle class social groups, and personal character is more concentrated in the50to60-year-old man of the field of culture and entertainment; in timeliness,the overalltimeliness is weak, but to maintain a high degree of concern for major social events; incover design, the magazine like to use more of a bright background, simple hand drawingwith large blank form with a strong sense of space and visual impact of the cover.For the study of the theory of media ecology perspective, we found thatconsumerism provide "New Weekly" a new theory to analyze social phenomena, but"New Weekly" itself also affected by its adverse effects; shallow reading make the coverstory article more reader-friendly and increase the amount of information, but will restrictto the depth of thought of the article; market competition promotes "New Weekly"innovation efforts, but also makes it blindly cater to the bad habits of readers.
