The textile industry is one of the important pillar industries in China. It occupies a pivotal position in the process of national economic development. In the field of knitting, computer flat knitting machines are automation weaving equipments with high technical content. It includes computer software engineering, automatic control, motor control, electronic driver design, mechanical design and weaving technology. The machines are able to weave complex pattern of organization what traditional knitting machines couldn’t do. With the rapid development of electronic computers and information technology, the position of electronic control systems is become more prominenter in computer flat knitting machines. And electronic control systems have become the core of computer flat knitting machine. The role of the electronic control systems are to deal with all kinds of information and send sorts of instruction with a high-performance CPU. They could control parts of the knitting machine in real-time and complete a variety of knitting action. With the supports of the national capital as well as the upgrading and updating of textile industries, enterprises will focus on the quality and functionality of computer flat knitting machines increasingly. One computer flat knitting machine which is full-featuredand and stable is bound to be favored by the market.At first, this paper analyzes the research status and development trend of domestic and international computer flat knitting machines, and then introduces mechanical structure, working principle and weaving of computer flat knitting machines. Second, analyzes the demand of computer flat knitting machines control systems, and proposes the design of three vertical layer--interactive layer, main control layer and head control layer. On this basis, further analysis of the main control layer electronic control system has been done. What’s more, the control system solutions of computer flat knitting machines based on DSP are proposed. Next, the hardware and software design of electronic control system on main control layer are described in detail. On this basis, the function of each module of the electric control system of computer flat knitting machine on main control layer is simulated. Finally, this research work are summarized and future prospects for the development of computer flat knitting machine and future research.The subject of the electrically controlled system uses the production of TI’s DSP-TMS320F28335as the main controller on main control layer, and responsible for the operation and coordination of the entire main control layer. DSP algorithm is mainly used to control each motor and communication with human-computer interaction layer the handpiece control layer in order to control the operation of the fuselageFPGAs of Cyclone II family production of Altera Corporation on the main control layer of electronic control system are designed in this topic as a co-processor. On the one hand they are used for the expansion of the DSP I/O pins, the other hand used to help the DSP control body run. As a co-processor, this project designed FPGA-based dual-port RAM communication module and NIOS II-based sensor alarm module. The dual-port RAM module is used for communication between the main control layer and human-computer interaction layer. Sensor alarm module is responsible for monitoring and processing of sensor information which is from the main control layer in computer flat knitting machines.The purpose of this project is to design a high-performance electronic control system of the main control layer in computer flat knitting machines which is fully functional, stable operation, and has independent intellectual property rights. The system has the advantages of stability, versatility, high integration, scalability, low cost, and scalable, and has a certain degree of competitiveness in the domestic market in the field of computer flat knitting machines.
