The positive impact of microblog and other social media to Chinese society isself-evident, when it began to permeate every aspect of our lives, one of the problems weshould pay attention to: which caused problems of social media dependency owing to indulgein social media.In this paper, microblog-the current domestic polymerization strongest social media-is anentry point, and college students-the active microblog users-are the inspection object. On thebasis of the development of10characterizations scale of microblog dependence, this studyinvestigated the situation of microblog use and microblog dependence from quantitative andqualitative research methods. Eventually, this study found the differences between microblogdependence users and regular users, and these differences mainly related to the use of the basicsituation of microblog, the motivation and the media needs; this study also found the variablesrelated to the microblog dependence.Survey results show that20.5percent of microblog users of college students reached thestandard of microblog dependence.In terms of basic features, microblog dependence users showed an apparent compulsivepsychological or behavioral characteristic. The study concluded that microblog dependenceand PIU showed a significant difference, mainly due to the no significant withdrawalsymptom.In terms of motivation and media needs, microblog dependence users showed a stronginitiative,"Get Info" is their primary motivation, and they also showed the motivation of"record" of their own lives. Compared to microblog dependence users, the primary motivationfor microblog regular users is "concerned about the celebrity", they also showed the obviousmotivation of following the others, and they generally do not like recording their lives, justfor pastime. Of course, to all the microblog users, the motivation of maintaining the circle ofacquaintances is significantly stronger than the "development of new circle of friends"motives.In terms of variables related the "microblog dependence", this study found that" microblog dependence" was negatively related to "duration of the use of microblog",positively correlated to "daily time of the use of microblog", hardly related to "the level ofstudy" and "interpersonal relationships". This study also found that microblog dependenceusers and regular users showed significant differences of landing approach, college femaleusers were more likely than male to form a dependency, students of different disciplines andgrade showed the different degrees of dependency, regular users were higher than dependenceusers to the life satisfaction.
