Internet had changed the traditional mode of transmission and made fast global information flowavailable with a general internet protocol. Moreover, with advancement of the terminal equipmenttechnology, the internet has been expanded to all kinds of needs in our life and even changed ourlifestyle. For instance, the popularity of social media has changed people’s mode of social contact,while the networked and interacted television media has provided people more choices in using TV.Against such background, Social TV which combines TV’s communication function and socialmedia’s characteristic comes out. As developed early aboard, Social TV has attracted extensivediscussion and increasing relevant research. Though starting late, home research on Social TV arebecoming a trend. The research aims to study Social TV by communication.Social TV combines TV’s communication function and social media’s characteristic. Thoughisolated research on TV communication or social networking in communication, physiology andsociology has been abundant, research on combinatorial of the two are still in its infancy. Therefore,the research conducts a comparative study on traditional TV communication and social mediacommunication by means of literature research, interdisciplinary research, case analysis andcomparison. It tries to profoundly explore people’s experience change in watching TV when they aredirect producers and consumers of media.Social TV changes the relation between the giver and the receiver. It is distinctively interactive bycoexisting individuality and community, and combining real time and globalization. The research alsofinds that the mode of Social TV communication will hand over part of the control power of the socialmedia to its users. Moreover, the users’ participation on Social TV will be conducive to novelprograms. Influence of the same hot issues on different regions will spread more quickly as Social TVis expanding instant interaction between families to the whole world. Besides verification of theSocial TV content and protection of network safety should also be concerned. Such change willdefinitely influence the social operation. Major findings of the research are shown as the above.The research also analyzes the Social TV’s impact and influence towards individuals and thesociety in the future, and explores its future development and liable application. The thesis tries toconduct an academic analysis and provide a reference for later researchers.
