With the rapid development of space industry, a large number of radar equipmentare introduced to the experimenting range, it is a frequent and perennial work for theradar to measure parameter and test function. The pattern and gain measurement, phaseshifter module testing, and calibration of antenna pointing north which are the basicmeasurement project to ensure the radar to work properly. The traditional measuringmethods mainly rely on calibration tower, which has the building security difficulties,and is influenced easily by the factors such as space, measuring equipment andinterference. Using Sun which is the natural microwave emission random signal sourceas the standard signal for antenna far field test to measure antenna parameters, cansolve the existing problems of range measurement under the conditions. This papermainly studies the radar antenna measurement method using the Sun noise, includingthe following contents:(1) Studying and analyzing the solar radio radiation. Describing the solar fluxdensity and its calculation method, the concept of the solar angular diameter, therelative motion relationship between the Earth and the Sun, and the solving method ofthe solar angle at the any time and the any point. Finally analyzing the feasibility thatthe Sun can be used as measuring signal source.(2) Studying the method of using the solar noise to measure antenna pattern. Tothe measuring defects of using the calibration tower, using the Sun to measure antennapattern. Introducing the measuring principle, procedure and parameter calculationmethod in detail, and analyzing measuring results.(3) Studying the method of using the solar noise to measure antenna gain. To themeasuring difficult, using the Sun to measure antenna gain. According to measuringthe ‘Y’ coefficient and the noise of receiving system, analyzing the adjusting factor tocalculate the antenna gain.(4) Studying the method of using the solar noise to test the phase shifters module.Based on the phase exchanging measurement method, combining with the actual radarequipment, using the Sun to test the phase shifter module. Two evaluation indexes areput forward. Introducing the testing method and procedure in detail. Finally verifyingthe feasibility by simulation experiments.(5) Developing the antenna measurement system using the Sun. Based onstudying theoretical methods, designing and implementing the pattern and gainmeasurement system using the Sun.
