A country’s image presented in the international community is largely of "He" image. Due to the limited physical vision and scope of activities, and the mass media’s information dissemination speed and efficiency as well as the expansion of the coverage of information in the process of globalization, making the international news media played a pivotal role in shaping the image of a country. In recent years, China-related reports in "TIME" as the representative of the mainstream American news media become a hot topic of the news research. In a sense, China’s international image is the U.S. mainstream news media reporting and molding of the national image. This paper, taking example for China-related events reported in "TIME" in2011, analyses China’s national image in the foreign news media. There is important significance to understanding of China’s national image, correcting the not real and biased national image of China in the international community,"Deconstruction" of foreign news media reports on China framework, and "re-construction" the correctly and objectively reported framework which is better for China’s national image, and in order to create a positive, good national image. In this paper, I make a system statistics and analysis of the number, genre, theme, angle and so on, of "TIME" reported about China in2011with the way of taking the content analysis as the basic research method, at the same time, combining with the framework analysis which is commonly used in the western journalism research and the "Spiral of Silence Theory" in Mass Communication. And I strive to make a more objective and comprehensive comment about China-related reports in the U.S. media, thus make more profound interpretation of the mainstream American news media in shaping China in my thesis. In addition, I explain the cause of negative reports about China in "TIME" from psychology, market, ideology, the U.S. media, and China itself and other point of view. In terms of molding national image by itself, Chinese media should change from passive to active——taking the initiative to strengthen contacts and exchanges with foreign media; actively steering "the recipient as the center" reported mode, and respecting for the reading habits and receiving psychology of foreign audiences.Simultaneously, facing with the increasingly fierce international competition, this paper puts "TIME" reports on China in2011as the research sample to understand and analyze China’s national image in the international community, and does its utmost to make constructive comments and suggestions about promptly correcting the existing subjective and biased reports, maintaining a good image of the country. And it regards strengthening the development of China’s "soft power", improving China’s international competitiveness, fighting more initiative to speak in exchanges with other countries as the starting point and goal. Moreover, the statistics and analysis of "TIME"2011China-related events reported sample date provide some reference text, which contribute to objective understanding and accurate analysis of the foreign news media coverage of Chinese affairs and national image, and in-depth understanding of the China’s national image in the eyes of the foreign publics.
