With the development of LED technology, LCD TV of LED backlight hasbecome mainstream products in TV industry. LCD TV can be divided into direct-litand edge-lit. Edge-lit LCD TV was lighter, thinner and fewer LEDs used thandirect-lit LCD TV, the cost of edge-lit TV can be greatly reduced, and it was morebeneficial for popularity and industrialization of LCD TV. So the edge-lit TVs aredominant in the TV market. Due to the rapid development of LCD TV, how to reducethe power consumption of TV is the currently main research direction of the variousmanufacturers. A part of edge-lit LCD TVs have the full-screen dimming function andthe effect of saving energy is ordinary. This thesis mainly studies how to add morecomplex dynamic dimming on edge-lit LCD TV and make the effect of saving energybetter.At first this thesis describes the development status of FPGA, principle of liquidcrystal display and technology indicators of LCD, then makes a detail introduction ofthe key research of this thesis-algorithm research and hardware implementation ofarea dynamic control of edge-lit LCD TV.This thesis mainly researches the optical design, driving circuit design and thedynamic backlight algorithm of edge-lit LCD TV. The article discusses the selectionand arrangement of LED having influence on optical design and the confirmed LEDmodels and arrangement not only meets the various indicators of LCD TV but also laythe foundation for dynamic backlight algorithm. The essay also talks about the drivingcircuit program and the choice of driving chip. Driving circuit with feedbackregulation can control the switching of backlight flexibly and at the same time greatlyimprove the efficiency of this circuit. The dynamic backlight algorithm that wasapplicable in the edge-lit LCD TV is proposed. The article analyses the workingprocess and principle of each module of algorithm. Finally, experiment shows that thealgorithm has a good improvement of energy saving and picture quality of edge-litLCD TV. This design of edge-lit LCD TV with dynamic backlight function can exceed thedemands of optical standard, electrical standard and more energy-efficient. It hasbetter market prospect.
