The Study Of The Construction Of Information Commons In Chinese Public Library

With the deepening of social information,the trend of user’s information needs andinformation behaviors change into diversification and personalization. As an communityservice organizations,the traditional ideas and ways of service in public libraries are difficultto meet readers’ information needs gradually,so,in order to cater to the needs of thecommunity,public libraries should better to reflect the social functions of itself and mustinnovate service models and improve quality of service to meet the needs of readersconstantly.In the1990s, the building wave of Information Commons(IC) in some universitylibraries in Europe and America were risen.This new model of service is an one-stop servicecenters and collaborative learning environment.The successful Experience of IC in foreigncountries has brought new opportunities to Chinese libraries.Many university librariesconstructed their own IC service system. Learning from the successful experience of the IC athome and abroad and constructing Information Commons in public libraries is an importantways and means to change the concept of the traditional services in public library, and help tocreate a number of public libraries with characteristics of the creativity.I researched the building instance at home and abroad,and analysised necessity andfeasibility of building IC in Chinese public libraries.The article aims to build an InformationCommons theoretical model in public library from three levels of space, resources andservices,which is different from University Library,and analysis the protection mechanismsof IC. In order to put theoretical model of the IC into practice,the articles were designed forthe following six sections:Part one is introduction. the main research background, significance, content, methodsand the status of IC research at home and abroad are introduced in this chapter.Part two is an overview of the information commons. It is explained the meaning ofinformation commons, analyzed the elements of the information commons and the futuredirection of IC, focused on the characteristics of IC in public libraries.Part three is a brief analysis of the necessity and feasibility in public libraries to build aninformation commons.They were discribed from space, resource and services, andsummarizes the successful experience of IC at home and abroad.Part four is building of China’s large public libraries. It is the key chapter,and analyzedthe protection factors,targets,tasks and principles of building of IC in large public libraries.This capter designed and planned IC from spaces,resources and services at the same time.Part five analyzed the protection factors.They are idea, management system,qualityassessment and so on.All of this factors are safeguarded the smooth implementation of ICwhich was put theoretical model into practice.Part six is Conclusion. It summarized the thesis research and innovation, and analyzedof the lack of paper, and want to be able to make some contribution to the future development of the public library and provide some ideas for further study.
