During the 1990s, a new pattern of service at college library in America and Europe emerged, that was Information Commons. Information Commons is an innovation to traditional service at library, which is a one-stop shopping place of intergrating resource services, technology services, and information literacy training to user. With the change of behavior of using information and the emergence of collabrative learning, higher demand is bringing forward to college library, which is more emphasizing the support to the collabrative environment and group communication, collaboration and instruction. From now on, the Learning Commons is coming. A Learning Commons is a dynamic, collaborative environment on campus, that provides assistence to students with learning and research needs. It combines a variety of sources, including information, technology, facilties, and human resources. Some of its key concerns are learning, collaboration and research. The main purpose is to make student learning easier and more successful. It is a new phase of Information Commons, which does satisfy the students'needs of collaborative learning environment.The learning theory under the constructivism is a band new theory of pedagogy, which thinks that personal learning phase is not a course of remembering the knowledge which the teacher inculcated, but is a course of knowledge construction under the direction of the teacher. It is centered on user, not only stressing the students as a cognitive subject, but also not ignoring the instruction of teachers. In recent years, the educationist have done lots of research and exploration, and they want to construct a new collabrative learning environment which accommodated to the learning theory of constructivism. Thus, the Learning Commons have offered a precondition for collaborative teaching at college school, and also supported an excellent place for constructivism.The paper firstly analysed the status quo about theory research and practice of Learning Commons at home and abroad. Secondly, it expatiated the concept, idea of service, composing elements and some theory related to Learning Commons. Thirdly, the author made some analyzations through three trpical cases about Learning Commons at home and abroad, and then pointed out the problems existed in the construction and operation of Learning Commons and gave some relevant strategies. Fourth, under the learning theory of the constructivism, the author constructed a model of Learning Commons. At last, the author made an questionaire survey about content and service mode of Learning Commons in Fuzhou Uinversity, and made a demonstration to the Learning Commons model from physical places, Virtual places, resources construction and service integration.
