The real world is a3D world. With the development of society and technology, the2D displaycan no longer meet peoples’ needs of a better viewing experience. The3D display emerges as thetimes require. At present, viewers have to wear some apparatus to experience the3D display, such asglasses. The auto-stereoscopic display, which viewers can access3D without any glasses, also hasmany drawbacks, such as its fixed viewpoint, severe crosstalk, great loss in brightness and imageresolution. As a large screen projection display, the auto-stereoscopic projection display has greatadvantages in the numbers of viewpoint, crosstalk, brightness and resolution. It has been introducedand studied in many articles, but few of them has carried out systematic analyses.The research on auto-stereoscopic projection display which based on both lenticular gratingsand prism gratings has been done in this paper. The conclusion can be drew as follows:A. Auto-stereoscopic projection display based on lenticular gratingAuto-stereoscopic projection display can be realized in this proposal;More than twentyprojectors would be set to present more than twenty viewpoints with different stereo images;Highbrightness, no loss of image resolution and the crosstalk would be low.B. Auto-stereoscopic projection display based on directional transmission prism gratingAuto-stereoscopic projection display can also be realized in this proposal; Two projectorswould be set to present only one stereo image; Multiple viewpoints would be gained, But the widthof each viewpoint was only about7mm where the crosstalk is less than10%. Its brightness is onlyabout two times than that of ordinary projection display.C. Auto-stereoscopic projection display based on directional reflecting prism gratingThis proposal also can realize the auto-stereoscopic projection display; The quantity ofprojectors can be set up to over dozens, which is more than the number in other two proposals, thusdozens viewpoints would be gained to present various stereo image; High brightness and lowcrosstalk would be realized; The structure of directional reflected grating is relatively complex; Thesize of the screen is limitied, and the visual area on the vertical direction is very narrow.D. The feasibility of proposals above: auto-stereoscopic projection display based on lenticulargrating> auto-stereoscopic projection display based on reflecting prism grating> auto-stereoscopic projection display based on transmission prism grating.
