Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a popular research field developed in recentyears. It has a very broad application prospects. But its applications were also muchlimited. Especially the limited energy brings limited life to the network. Therefore, itmust try to reduce the power consumption of the network. One of the key technologiesof wireless sensor network research is how to let the network has a longer survivaltime on the premise of limited energy.This paper first introduces the system structure of wireless sensor network and themain characteristics of wireless sensor network which is different from other networks,then analyzes the energy consumption of the network nodes and researches the energysaving mechanism of the network. In this paper, a typical protocol of the existingwireless sensor network is analyzed. This paper analyzes the cause andcountermeasures that the energy was wasted by the MAC layer protocol. Theadvantages and defects of the corresponding measures is analyzed in this paper.This article realized a small-scale wireless sensor network in view of the specificusing background. The network belongs to a small event-driven wireless sensornetwork, with sudden, a small amount of data and other typical characteristics.Through the analysis of the physical layer, media access control layer, network layer,and application layer protocol, and combining with actual network characteristics, thispaper designs a comprehensive energy-saving technology to reduce the powerconsumption of the network, and extends the life of the network. Specific measuresinclude: the physical layer protocol can determine network node location and adjust thetransmission power according to the RSSI value size; the media access control layersupports node to switch between different states to increase energy efficiency(the dutycycle sleep technology); both the total path energy consumption and the remainingenergy of a single node must be considered in the network layer Energy-savingmechanism to prevent some nodes fail due to excessive use and become bottlenecks ofsystem which produce relatively large even fatal influence(dynamic routing technology). Using the comprehensive energy saving technology can greatly extend thelifetime of the wireless sensor network; can greatly reduce the average powerconsumption of the small event-driven wireless sensor networks.Finally the paper summarizes the full text, points out the shortcomings of theirown work, and put forward the direction of future work.
