Z-Wave protocol is a burgeoning new protocol in the field of smart home, whichis characterized by its low cost, low power and high reliability. Currently, a largeamount of Z-Wave products have been into thousands of families. However, there arestill many problems in practical application based on Z-Wave protocol. For instance, the low efficiency of message transmission, the weak load capacity of the junction, thelow effectiveness of data transmission rate and so on.Firstly, the architecture of Z-Wave protocol, as well as other ones of Internet ofThings protocols are systematically analyzed and studied. Secondly, it focuses on theoptimization on the routing layer of Z-Wave protocol to improve the methods forupdating the routing table, the message-transmission latency of Z-Wave protocol, aswell as the network congestion problems in the period of the specific time. The mainworks of this thesis is as follows:1. The architecture of Z-Wave protocol is systematically analyzed, and also iscontrasted with the ones of ZigBee and Bluetooth protocol.2. The routing layer of Z-Wave protocol is deeply studied. It does exist threeprimary problems:(1) Due to the existence of the mobile nodes, the Z-Wave protocolrouting table can’t actually reflect the network topology in real time causing thedata-transmission latency;(2) When it finds node, Z-Wave protocol using simpleflooding find method would cause the network congestion for a period of time;(3)Z-Wave protocol would adopt the default method of the shortest path transmissionwhen users access several devices at the same time. In addition, the weak load capacityof the slaver node causes the latency of data transmission. Based on those problems, the methods for updating the routing table are improved, the performance of thenetwork is optimized when there are overabundant package used for finding a node bysimple flooding find method, and the rate of data transmission in short time isimproved by introducing the mechanism of load balance.3. The improved routing protocol is simulated in the OMNeT++platform, and thelatency as well as the traffic of this network is analyzed.
