Since the20th century, the computer technology and the network communication technology have developed rapidly. Due to the fast and convenient characteristics of computer networks, the Internet has played a significant role in people’s lives. However, with the development of the information technology, the traditional wired network can not satisfy people’s demand for flexibility and mobility. The wireless Ad-hoc networks have been applied preliminarily owing to its unique advantages in areas such as military, environmental monitoring, and won the people’s approval. Multimedia sensor networks which are based on the wireless Ad-hoc networks attracted people’s attention. Because the multimedia sensor networks ordinarily consist of several communication node, and rely on the wireless signal to network and exchange data, the networks are often limited to the performance of communication nodes, wireless transmission module, wireless channel bandwidth, data flow and environmental factors which affect the data communication. Especially in the multimedia data transmission, these factors often restrict the transmission effect. Then based on the current situation of the multimedia sensor networks, establishing a multimedia video data transmission in real environment through multimedia sensor networks system and optimizing the protocols to fit the transmission of multimedia data as much as possible has important research and application value.This paper first introduces the basic concept of802.11MAC protocol principle which is commonly used in the multimedia sensor networks and the Ad-hoc networks as well as the wireless routing protocol, and analyzes the mechanism of AODV protocol routing networks. On this basis, this paper builds a set of multimedia sensor networks multipoint video monitoring system. This system uses embedded TOP6410development board which is based on ARM11 processor as a network node, and transplants AODV protocol on the Linux operating system of the nodes. Using Data packets with different sizes and rates and multimedia video data to test the system, through the analysis of test results and operation, we put forward an improved method of AODV protocol based on load balancing. The routing optimization method implements the data flow control. Comparative experimental results of routing protocol draws the conclusion that improved routing protocol algorithm meets the actual needs and optimizes the transmission of multimedia data in a certain extent.
