The Research Of The Library Economic Value Measurement Method

As the library is a non-profit organization, the library performance evaluation isalways a hot research in the library academic research. Under the impact of the globaleconomic crisis and the rapid development in the information era, how to maximizeeconomic benefits for library users and provide the best service are become more andmore important. Research libraries economic value measurement method can helpresearchers to clarify ideas, and provide help for future research, and promote theintegration and development of library science, economics and mathematics. And canhelp library managers and users to more understand the library value. And canenhance the managers and users attention of the library.This paper uses a survey of literature, classified the literature and comparative theliterature method. Firstly, this paper introduces the domestic and foreign researchprogress about the libraries economic value measurement method, and sum up the hotjournal, researchers and topics of the libraries economic value measurement. Secondly,this paper points out the basis, principle and system of the libraries economic valuemeasurement. And this paper introduces and evaluates two economic measurementsbetween Cost Benefit Analysis and the Return on Investment. Then this paperintroduces and evaluates the five measurements of libraries economic value, namelyConsumer Surplus Method, Contingent Valuation Method, Cost of Time, The Methodof University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and The Method of University ofColorado. Finally, this paper sums up some disadvantages about the librarieseconomic value measurement, such as the present library economic valuemeasurement methods are subjectivity, and did not have a complete and uniformstandards model.In the end of this paper, it summarizes the work, the innovation points and theresearch deficiency of this paper. This paper expects can make a contribution for thefuture of the library economic value measurement method.
