Nowadays, the application of video monitoring system has become more and more widely, especially in public places. Video data is evolving into a large data source, with expanding rapidly. At present, the video monitoring system are basically recording video, but the data do not be explained, so it can only be used after verification, and can not give full play to the real-time and active control. So the security system puts forward intelligent requirements (analyzing the video data in real time, and providing the analysis results to the monitoring personnel as a reminder) to the huge video data. Therefore, making research and development of an intelligent video surveillance system has great significance and use value.According to the application demand on video monitoring system, and combining with the development trend of video monitoring system and application status, this paper use embedded technology, image compression technology, video analysis technology and network transmission technology design an embedded video monitoring system based on ARM Cortex-A8.It can display real-time and initiative video monitoring in a certain extent. The work includes designing hardware and software of video monitoring system.Hardware:according to the overall requirements of customers design, I select ARM processor S5PV210as main controlling chip; select TVP5150AM1as low power video converter chip, according to the digital video interface standard and interface of the main control chip; according to the demand of data transmission, choose LAN9220as the Ethernet controller.Software:through cutting and configuring on Linux operating system, transplanting into Uboot and producing the root file system; driver design, such as video conversion chip driver, FIMC and V4L2driver transplantation, I2C driver; design software of the system, design based on V4L2video collection procedures, H.264video compression library transplantation, the UDP C/S network model design, the frame difference method of video analysis program design and alarm program.This paper achieves a complete video surveillance system, through the video acquisition, compression, transmission and analysis. After testing, the system has a strong practical value.
