In recent years, with the growing trend of social instability, people are more concerned about public safety and home security. As the most intuitive way of monitoring, video surveillance plays an increasingly important role in the industrial, military, and everyday life.Traditional video surveillance system using the PC as a surveillance platform, relying on a wired network for transmission, has been unable to meet the needs of modern video surveillance. Video surveillance system based on embedded platform has the advantages of high cost performance, convenient and flexible, thus leading a wide range of applications in the surveillance market. Therefore, the video surveillance system based on embedded platform has been designed and studied in this paper.Based on ARM11and Linux operating systems, the server of monitoring platform has been designed to achieve a collection of video data, compression and remote transmission. In addition, Android mobile phone platform is used to design and develop an Android application which can realize the video data receiving, decoding and playing.Firstly, the basic principle of embedded monitoring system are briefly analyzed. According to the system requirements, OK6410 development board and Linux operating system have been selected as a server platform. ZC301P camera and V4L2programming interface are used to realize the video image acquisition. H.264standard is used for image compression. Socket programming and UDP protocol are used to realize the video transmission.Android smartphone as a client, an application is developed to receive the transmitted video data, which is used for H.264video decoding. Then, decoded data is played on Android phones.
