Recently, someChinese news media boldly report some events in a critical way that the minority peoplein the government departments, the judicial departments or the economic departmentsmake use of their authority to seek embezzlement, bribery, breach of duty and even doevery evil or commit all sorts of corruption. Moreover, these news media also reveal thegreat loss to the nation and people which all sorts of corruption brings, as well as thevarious bad behaviours which a few outlaws act to endanger people’s lives and propertyand social order. They are making efforts to promote the anti-corruption workeffectively,promote social climate change and social development and progress. Thesouthern weekend is one of the most famous of the media, and sets a good example is forits supervision of public opinion, supporting this claim is publication of a large amount ofinfluential critical reports.This article uses all the critical reports in the southern weekend from March6,2008, to March6,2011, as sample. We carry on the quantitative and qualitative researchto explore critical reports’ features in the southern weekend during the three years. In thisarticle, we can find the southern weekend takes critical reports very seriously, a largenumber of critical reports with a high frequency has become an important part of the dailyreport in the southern weekend.But generally speaking, the critical reports in the southernweekend is going down. On the page layout processing, the southern weekend alsoattaches great importance to critical reports, they often come to the fore in the southernweekend. Critical reports also pay much attention to the time of the reporting, in January,February and October, critical reports will be reduced. Meanwhlie, Critical reports appealto the establishment of rule of law, many reports about it are mainly on law version. Atthe same time, critical reports are very concerned about the people’s livelihood issues, itstarget of reporting is mostly about enterprises. And most of the critical reports in terms ofstate structures are about regional governments and municipal governments. In thesouthern weekend, the main forms of critical reports are investigative reports and depth reports, critical reports highlight "proximity"," conspicuousness" and "importance". Afterconducting qualitative research on critical reports published in the southern weekend fromMarch6,2008, to March6,2011, critical reports are reported by different reportingframeworks, the main reporting frameworks are as listed below:" the problems ofgovernment regulatory","problems of rule by law ","problems of officials corruption","problems of disadvantaged groups ","problems of social moral","problems of black evilforces""problems of human and nature" and "educational problems" etc. Thecharacteristics above of critical reports in the southern weekend show that the southernweekend always adheres to the newspapers policy:"rational, justice, conscience and love",and that the southern weekend has achieved the third transformation: the standpoint ofreporting walks from "expose" to "construct", the view of reporting steps from "sufferingsof people" to "fate of China", accordingly the southern weekend emphasizes rationalityand construction.
