With the improvement of China’s capacities and international status, it has been an important subject for Chinese scholars to create a good external environment for China’s sustainable development and to spread a powerful image of peace, justice, and responsibility to the world.The successful launch of Shenzhou9spacecraft has attracted the worldwide attention. Besides this, the American economy and media industry development have made great achievements, and it’s great worthy for China of learning from it, as represented by the New York times, the mainstream media in the United States are shaping the world opinion with its incomparable advantages.Framing analysis, which came into being in1980s, has been used widely by researchers in recent years. Based on the predecessors’ research, with the method of category construction and text reading, this thesis adopts the frame theory as theoretical basis, compares the news report about Shenzhou9spacecraft launch between the People’s Daily and the New York Times, in order to find their content framework and reporting ways framework to help China listen to the voices of the world mainstream media, and provide reference for China’s external communication.This thesis is divided into6parts:The introduction part mainly discusses the research significance, literature review and research design. Then this thesis extracts, though the collation and analysis of data, both content framework and reporting ways framework of the two newspapers about the Shenzhou9reports in the first two chapters. The third chapter reaches a conclusion according to the former analysis, and discusses their report frameworks historically. The fourth chapter tries to find the causes of the framework from the angles of ideology, the news concept and international relations. The conclusion part points out that the Chinese media should learn the good communication skills from western media and improve their own shortcomings, so as to do more efforts to spread the good Chinese images to the world.
