Under the backdrop of the world theme of peace and development, the ability of humans to explore the unknown things and to understand itself has been continuously improved;however,anti-human,anti-social,and anti-peace forces of terrorism have become a stumbling block on the road to multinational development. Our country, especially in Xinjiang, has been suffered to violent terrorist attacks on many occasions, which has caused great harm to local and national people. In addition to the dangers of the terror event itself, the reports of Western media on the violent terrorist incidents represented by the New York Times which guided the world's views and attitudes toward China, especially the ruling party and the government. It affects China's discourse power and national image in the international community. This article takes Fairclough's critical discourse analysis as the theoretical basis, draws lessons from the studies of news discourse of Van Dijk and other scholars, uses content analysis and discourse analysis as research methods, and discusses the 2008-2017 news of the New York Times violence terrorism incident in Xinjiang.By examining the report titles, quotes and syntax, the number of reports and news production, combined with macro-social and cultural elements, the characteristics of the New York Times' reports on violent terrorist incidents in Xinjiang were analyzed, the type of prejudice was summarized, and the causes of prejudice were discussed. The study found that there are five ways in which the New York Times news headlines describe the violent terrorist incidents in Xinjiang, namely “conflict style”,“irony style”,“absence style”,“fuzzy style” and “declarative style”.Text sentences are mainly simple sentences, and the accuracy of information expression is high. From the aspects of modal verbs, textual syntax, and quotations,it can be seen that there are obvious prejudices in the reports.Specifically, through the analysis of the microtext, news production, macro reports, and socio-cultural analysis,it was found that the New York Times ten years of reported biases involving violent terrorist incidents in Xinjiang still exist, but there is a relatively moderate trend. The reasons for this phenomenon may be as follows: First,China's overall social environment has been relatively stable in the past two years, while the United States has frequent violent incidents. The New York Times has focused its reports on the United States;secondly, the New York Times is in a transition. In order to cater to the audience's tastes to the greatest degree, the prejudice of reports gradually diminishes. Finally,as China's overall national strength continues to increase,it plays an increasingly important role in the international community and international affairs.Let the United States and other countries in the world to observe and understand China's response to Xinjiang and see the management capabilities and the development of Xinjiang, the objectivity of foreign media reports has increased.
