Analysis Of Universities Libraries’ Space And Environment Based On Place Spirit Theory

The emerge of words marks the rise of human civilization. The constructions of libraries have made a huge contribution to the continuation of human civilization by recording and saving words from ancient times to new ages, which has changes form building just for collecting books to modern library. Nowadays, with the development of electronic information industry, the number of libraries is continuously increasing instead of reducing, and libraries’ proportion has become the sign of a country’s civilization level. At the same time, libraries improve their management and services in the technology and also the theory to keep up with the time.Place spirit theory gives the building space soul and life by researching the formation and development of space’s content, such as building, streets, marks, environment and so on, and also people’s perception and experience about it. It discusses space’s cultural influence on humans, pursues the state that humans can fit the space physically and mentally in a high degree, and finally creates an environmental image which can let humans depend on and also have a lot of memories. Libray is not just the building for collecting books and providing a place for readers to learn, but a space system full of rich content and cultural atmosphere, and the place space that can interact with readers in thier behaviour and also mind. The author calls various support from all sides for holding activities for readers in universities’ libraries, the space service of universities. The research of universities’ place spirit is the same to universities’ space services, which includes many aspects and contents, so this paper do the system analysis and verification of universities’ space services. As a large and special category of libraries, universities library has single but huge group of readers, college students. This paper uses universities’ readers’ service areas as a typical place space, the place space spirit as the theoretical support, and survey analysis, empirical analysis and theoretical model analysis and some other methods as the research methods, to have the research on Nanj ing’s15universities, form the point of readers’ views. This paper also analyses the present situation of universities’ space service, summarizes readers’ peculiar behaviour existing on universities, clarifies the importance of universities’ space to the readers’ behaviour, by describing the author’s work experience and empirical analysis result, and also establishes the theoretical model, based on KevinLynch’s place spirit theory. And eventually, this paper puts forward some systematic suggestions hierarchically about the way of building beautiful constructions on their forms, their environment, their culture and also the atmosphere like "home", form the point of aesthetics.
