Design And Implementation For802.1X Protocol Conformance Test Suite Based On TTCN-3

Because of the802.1X authentication protocol based on the port access control, itcan play a good effect at preventing the unauthenticated user to access to networkresource, and it has some features such as managing the network users conveniently,having good network security. The802.1X protocol has been applied in many scenarios,networking conveniently, and also has a low cost on deploying. So many famousnetwork equipment suppliers of the world have accomplished the802.1X authenticationfunction in their own products which are deployed in the inter-network of enterprise.For ensuring Ethernet devices which are running the802.1X authentication functionworking effectively, the devices must be tested the conformance testing to check the802.1X authentication system working as the standard protocol describing.TTCN-3as the standard abstract test language in the conformance testing area,ithas powerful information matching mechanism, the decision mechanism of test case,timer function, coding/decoding function，and it also can test with other high-levelprogram languages, so it can meet the needs of devices suppliers testing the Internetprotocol conformance of the Ethernet devices.The main research contents of this subject has designed and made the protocolconformance testing of802.1X for Ethernet device by using TTCN-3.With researchingon802.1X protocol, firstly in the basis of protocol frame format, using the ASN.1todesign the data construct of frames from different authentication phases.And then, topropose a test method for802.1X protocol conformance and design the network oftesting. From the aspects of the field attribute value, timer function and the statemachine transition of authentication system port, the paper has finished39testcases.According to that, to design the specific test case and program the test suite byusing the TTCN-3; meanwhile, this subject also designs the testing encapsulatedfunction with the Tcl automatic scripting language to control the device. Basing on theprevious work, this subject constructs the real testing environment with the TTCN-3compiling and running tool and the device, to test the test suite. The result of the testsuite has proved the effectiveness of this designed test suite.
