802.16e-2005 standard which was developed within IEEE society aims at Mobile Broadband Wireless Access. This document updates and extends IEEE Std 802.16-2004 to allow for mobile subscriber stations. As a result, the support for mobility takes a great part of the standard, including the procedures performed during handover being defined, MAC management messages exchanged during handover being firmed, ranging operations during handover being consummated and optional soft handover being added. Whether the implementation conforms the protocol standard is the key. So, protocol conformance testing becomes a shining focus which is used to ensure the consistency between a protocol implementation and related specification and recommendation. Thus, the research is very important and might give referenced projects for applications of related fields. By far, the European standardization body ETSI has developed a detailed testsuit for 802.16d while there is still no publication about the protocol conformance testing for 802.16e standard. So, developing a testsuit for 802.16e is very meaningful.This dissertation gives some description about 802.16d standard, 802.16e standard, protocol conformance testing methodology, testing language, and the testsuit developed by ETSI for 802.16d basing on author's reading and researching lots of related documents. Therefore, many testcases are extended for 802.16d standard and many testcases of protocol conformance testing are designed specifically for 802.16e standard including 2 testsuits, 8 test groups and 38 testcases. These testcases covers almost all the main functions in the procedure during handover, such as network topology acquisitionThe content of the thesis can be described as following:Firstly, the thesis describes the standardization of 802.16 protocol suit and 802.16d/802.16e standard in details. Secondly, protocol conformance testing and standard testing language TTCN-3, are demonstrated and generalized. Thirdly, the thesis analyses the 802.16d testsuit designed by ETSI, extends it and gives an expmle. Subsequently testsuits for the procedures during handover in 802.16e standard are designed and implemented. Finally, the thesis gives an example from the testsuit.
