Flowers have various organs with fine and irregular structure,both of theirgeometric construction and topological structure are very complex,thus flowerssimulation are difficult,time-consuming and challenging.Virtual flower morphologicalmodeling is one of hot topics in the field of virtual plant research,which has broadapplication areas,such as ecological environment simulation,agriculture research,aswell as virtual scene modeling in games and animation. This dissertation takes virtualflower as the research object,discusses the morphological modeling method andvisualization technology by applying OpenGL and computer graphics technology.To provide an visualizing simulation method of virtual flower,the geometricalmodeling data and textures are obtained by integrated using of measuring, referencingtheoretical data and macro photography.Bezier surface is used for modeling variouscrooked shapes of the petals and leaves, with the use of OpenGL pick technology toadjust the typical control points interactively.In realistic rendering,use double-facedtexture mapping with blanking the black rim of the petal texture by TextureColorKeytechnology and Alpha test. An algorithm of drawing curved cylinder based on fittingsine curve is put forward to model scape, pedicel and filament by changing thebending parameter, in addition, the gradient effect of the curve cylinder is simulatedbased on color interpolation.Set the control parameters,with which to model the topological structures offlowers and plants,by referencing golden section rule contained in flower morphology,including petals’ number,leaves’ number,their arrangement rule and the distributionpositions of each seed.The random function is also be brought forward to control theoffset angle when combining the petals,stamens and pistil,which makes thethree-dimensional flower look vivid and natural.Then generate integrated flower plantthrough inserting flowers and leaves in the scape.On the basis of the above research, this dissertation constructed the3Dmorphological models of virtual chlorophytum,Lilium,sunflower and chrysanthemum,and realized high realistic rendering.Simulation results show that the virtual modelsrecreating flowers’ beautiful appearance realistically.Experimental results prove thevalidity and reliability of the modeling methods,and also verify the golden rule ispractical for flowers modeling,the flexibility methods enrich the technology andtheory in virtual flowers morphological modeling.
