Facial modeling and animation is one of the difficult research topics in the field of computer graphics. With the development in the application of computer animation technology, movie techniques, electronic games and virtual reality, the research in this field has drawn more and more attention. The paper gives a comprehensive survey and analysis of the existing facial modeling and animation. By systematically analyzing relevant algorithms, I present novel algorithms for facial modeling: banded-surface facial modeling based on OpenGL. Designed and actualized facial modeling and facial expression presenting experiment-system.The research of Facial modeling and animation started from 1970s, which is being a hot point in computer research area. The reason is that the demand in many area' s impulsion and the improving of capacity of computer. Many famous research units had created 3D facial modeling research group. In China, the start is later. Though the developing of the theory so quickly, the application still few.The point of facial modeling and animation is how to use simple method and equipment to build a human face and its expressions. Under the research background of Affective Computing theory and technology in Harmonious HCI which is supported by Tianjin Science and Technology Tackle Key Item (04310731R), this paper explores to rise up the method of facial modeling based on OpenGL and banded-surface.The author decided to use NURBS surface for modeling, after compared many modeling methods, using OpenGL functions to realize the model and texture mapping. NURBS surface is becoming a hot point of facial, for low running cost, quickly modeling, smooth surface, and convenient controlling. With those merits, the author chooses it.The author' s works in this paper are as follows. (1)Created the model in 3Ds MAX using NURBS surface.(2)Realized the model in VC++ 6.0 mapping by OpenGL functions.(3)Realized the human expressions by adjusting the controlling point of the model.The experiment testified that the method for creating model, mapping, and controlling the expressions make a good winning.
